今週の内容
今週の6 minute Englishのテーマは"What is scumbro?"でした。
"scumbro"とはファッション雑誌Vanity Fairで出てきた単語で
"scummy"と"bro"を組み合わせた単語のようです。
"scummy"は"dirty and messy" (汚い)を意味し、
"bro"は"an informal way of reffering to a boy or man" (brotherの略)になります。
日本語にあえて訳すと"だらしない兄弟"みたいな感じですかね(笑)
そして超高級な服を意図的に安っぽく着こなすのが"scumbro"なファッションだそうです。
またジャスティン・ビーバーや、アリアナグランデの婚約者であるピート・デイビッドソンなどの有名人の影響で"scumbro"なファッションは、現在流行となっているそうです。
彼らのことをここではトレンドの創設者 "founding fathers" と表現していました。
そしてこの最新の流行に乗ろうとする人達を "fashion victim" と表現していました。
この単語は9/27の6 minute Englishでも出てきましたね。
そして最後にこの流行の問題点として、
皆が高級な服しか買わないようになり、charity shopのリサイクル品が全く売れず慈善団体にお金がいきわたらないというironyについて触れていました。

donating....giving goods or money to an organisation or charity (寄付)
founding fathers.... people who start an idea or an organisation (創設者)
fashion victim....a person who has to follow the latest fashion trends
rummaging....searching for something that's mixed up with lots of other things (かき回して探す)
simultaneously....doing one thing at the same time as doing something else (同時に)
そして個人的に気になったby the sounds of thingsという表現！
この表現は"自分の読み聞きした情報に基づくと"という意味らしいです！ (basing my ideas, opinions etc on what you have heard or read")
例をあげるとこんな感じで使われます。
ex A: My throat hurts and I feel dizzy.
B: Well, by the sound of things I think you're catching a cold.
