今週の6 minute Englishのテーマは"High heels"でした。
ハイヒールを履くメリットとして
- 職場で頼りがいがあるように見える。(look professional)
- 魅力的に見える。(for glamour)
- 背が高く見える。(make you taller)
- 自身の能力を引き出す。 (an act of empowerment)
が挙げられていました。
このようなメリットをまとめて
"transformative"あるいは"otherworldly"と表現していました。
ちなみに"empowerment"は2018/12/27の6 minute Englishでも出てきました。
一方でデメリットとして
- 骨や筋肉にダメージを与える。
- 権威を貶める行動(act of subordination) とみられることがある。
が挙げられていました。
最後にに男性の靴については、
華やかな色(flamboyant)でない靴が労働倫理(work ethic)の観点からも良いという話でした。
